Alzay Oleum Lucio Extra Virgin Oil, is certainly unique. This variety of olive is only found in the northern part of the province of Granada. Like many traditional varieties of crops it has suffered from not being conducive to modern production and harvesting techniques.
In the 1980's and 1990's, farmers considered that Lucio trees productivity and profitability were not sufficient and so they replaced it with other varieties. Another reason was the complexity of obtaining the fruit for the harvester, as the fruit clings to the plant. Due to the use force at the harvest, the olive tree could not recover well and only gave its maximum production every two years. It is also a tall tree measuring up to 3 metres, a figure that goes totally against the new harvesting practices. However, today, with new technologies and advances, none of the tree's characteristics are a reason to exterminate such a sacred resource.
In Alzay Oleum, Miguel Román López & Francisco Montes have fulfilled their dream to produce exquisite singular Extra Virgin Olive Oils by means of only artisanal procedures. Through this they obtain this liquid gold in the way their grandparents instilled in them: with respect, knowledge and passion.
Defined by the intense fruitiness of its green olives. On the nose it is distinguished by fresh tones with hues of tomato, apple and grass. On the palate it is very aromatic and persistent with an intense fruity and slightly sweet taste
