There is much more to saffron than making your paella a vivid bright yellow - (which it won't by the way). That is achieved by using yellow colouring (or colorante) - which we don't sell.
Our saffron is from Antonio Sotos S.L, one of La Mancha's leading manufactures renowned for their saffron products in all formats. This "Gourmet Selected" saffron is prepared from the best raw materials from all over the world selected the strictest quality control and experience. The saffron harvested and selected using traditional processes to take the best care of every strand and preserve all the quality of the saffron. The final result is a saffron with intense flavour, aroma & colour.
The name of saffron comes from the Persian "safra" meaning yellow and is thought to be the oldest used spice by humans. Its cultivation is closely connected to the most cultured and refined civilizations in the oriental world and its spread mimics the progressive displacements of people, from East to West, which made up the different cultures in the Mediterranean Basin.
Saffron was first introduced in Spain during the Arab domination (along with rice!). Arabic cooking was very rich in herbaceous flavourings and saffron was one of the most important spices, used as colouring and seasoning in most of their recipes.
